The Project

MAB had a strong relationship with its existing insurance brokers but felt that, for corporate governance reasons, the company should conduct an independent review to benchmark a number of areas of their insurance arrangements including service levels, value for money, risk transfer program structure, self-retention levels, claims handing and alternative risk financing options. The review was commissioned by the Chairman of the Audit Committee supported by the internal insurance team.

MAB www.mbplc.com is the UK's leading operator of managed pubs and pub restaurants and is a member of the FTSE 250.

The Input

We reviewed with MAB the company's risk and insurance requirements and broking needs, taking into account MAB's own internal resources and experience. We interviewed the existing brokers and measured the outputs from these meetings against industry best practice, using a range of sophisticated benchmarking tools.

The Outcome

A comprehensive audit quality report, delivered on time and to budget, containing a number of recommendations to assist MAB in ensuring the continued best blend of internal resource and external service provider. Having independently tested all aspects of their insurance arrangements, MAB is now better equipped to satisfy its corporate governance requirements in relation to this critical area of its business.

The Client's View

"The input from O'Connors and idRisk was extremely valuable in this exercise. Their careful, considered and comprehensive approach to the project inspired confidence from the start and delivered to the end. They brought a professional, well structured and flexible approach to the project which translated into a high quality report that offered a practical route map for MAB going forward. I would not hesitate to recommend them to any company who is considering undertaking a review of this nature." Nick Tinworth, Corporate Finance Director.
